At UMR School, we are committed to bridging the gaps in education aid and empowering individuals with the necessary technical skills and expertise. Our mission is to deliver high-quality education through a comprehensive approach that encompasses both classroom learning and engagement with the education ministry.
We understand that access to quality education is crucial for personal growth and development. That’s why we strive to provide our beneficiaries with the tools they need to succeed in their chosen fields. Whether it’s acquiring technical skills or gaining specialized knowledge, UMR School is dedicated to helping individuals reach their full potential.
Our programs are designed to be holistic and inclusive, addressing not only academic needs but also fostering a more systemic approach towards education. By collaborating closely with the education ministry, we ensure that our initiatives align with national priorities and contribute effectively to overall educational development.
Access to education is a fundamental right that should be available to every individual regardless of their circumstances. Unfortunately, low enrollment rates often hinder the realization of this right. However, in collaboration with the KELEM Education and Training Association, UMR (Organization Name) has taken significant steps towards addressing this issue.
Recognizing the importance of education in empowering communities and fostering socio-economic development, UMR has successfully constructed a school equipped with five classrooms. This infrastructure not only provides a conducive learning environment but also serves as an essential step in improving access to education for underserved populations.
In addition to school construction, UMR has prioritized the professional development of teachers through short-term training programs. By equipping educators with necessary skills and knowledge, they can effectively engage students and deliver quality instruction.
In 2016, our major education campaign was creating sustainable access to quality education facilities for drought-affected pastoralist school children in the Afar region of Ethiopia. The Afar region has one of the lowest education net enrollment ratios (NER) at 32%, far below the national average of 85%. More rural and remote Woredas within Afar have an even lower NER of 20% (Ministry of Education (MoE), 2011).
The existing poor access to education, combined with the drought facing the pastoralist, has severely affected the teaching-learning activities. Thousands of students are already out of school as they lack access to education. The majority of students have already dropped out of their school due to the effect of drought.
Continued and unresolved lack of access to water has aggravated the problem. School and female students are forced to miss class and drop out of school to fetch water from a very distant place. Sometimes the distance takes a whole day on foot for a round trip, profoundly affecting the participation of girls in education.
UMR is dedicated to empower these children with access to quality education. We are determined to transform their dreams into reality and help them reach their full potential with continuous educational support.
