Project Description

Qurbani Meat Distribution

Every year UMR carries out thousands of Qurbanis on behalf of donors and distributes the meat to vulnerable families. Many of these families are only able to enjoy meat once a year at the time of Eid ul Adha.

This year we will perform Qurbani in 13 countries and aim to reach tens of thousands of people living in poverty, struggling to survive in conflict zones or suffering as a result of natural disasters. UMR takes great care to perform Qurbani on your behalf in accordance with the Sunnah, providing up to four pounds of excellent quality meat per family.

Throughout Ramadan, UMR continued its life-saving work with Syrian Refugees in Jordan and Rohingya Refugees in Bangladesh by providing food parcels to displaced people. This year, on Eid ul Adha, UMR will continue to serve them by delivering your Qurbani meat.

Last year, thanks to your donations, UMR provided Qurbani meat for over 26000 individuals.

Qurbani or Udhiyyah is the animal sacrifice Muslims make during Eid-al-Adha. It takes place on the 12th month of the Islamic calendar, Dhul Hijjah, and the meat is distributed to the poor. During Qurbani, we’ll be distributing meat in many of the countries we work in.

The history of Qurbani can be traced back to the story of Cain (Qaabeel) and Abel (Haabeel). Abel was the first human being to offer the sacrifice of an animal to Allah. It can also be traced back to Prophet Ibrahim who had a dream that God ordered him to sacrifice his son, Ismael. While Ibrahim surrendered to God’s command, God intervened just before he could perform the sacrifice, sending him a ram in Ismael’s place. Today, the continued practice of the ritual of animal sacrifice serves as a reminder of Ibrahim’s obedience to God.

Qurbani is compulsory for every Muslim who is of sound mind and possesses the nisab (zakat threshold).

It’s simple. Choose the country where you’d like your Qurbani sent to. When we receive your order, we will perform your Qurbani on the morning of Eid.

The meat will then be distributed to the poorest families on the day of Eid-al-Adha, ensuring the poor get to celebrate Eid just like the rest of us. We do our very best to reach as many people as possible.

At UMR, we are committed to distributing meat to the world’s most needy families. This year, we’ve selected 13 countries in urgent need of your support. By allowing UMR to perform your Qurbani, some of the poorest and most vulnerable families will be nourished in conflict and famine affected countries like Yemen, Palestine, and Somalia.

Last year, thanks to your donations, we provided Qurbani to thousands of people in desperate need and we want to reach even more people this year.
