AUTISM AWARENESS & SUPPORT
AUTISM AWARENESS & SUPPORT
Autism is a complex developmental disorder that affects communication, behavior, and social interaction.
While the US has established robust systems for early diagnosis and intervention and laws ensuring educational and therapeutic support, Jordan, Gaza, Kenya, & Yemen in particular struggle with limited resources and services.
UMR increased our support to assist children with autism through advocacy campaigns and community awareness sessions.
Our programs include:
Speech Therapy
Speech therapy aims to develop speech and communication skills for children with autism and intellectual disabilities. It also aims to encourage the ability to express their needs and form coherent and understandable sentences, as well as to develop communication skills with the surrounding environment.
Behavioral Therapy
Behavioral therapy focuses on developing skills related to behavior, integration, playing with others, gradually controlling impulsive and involuntary movements, and working on improving discipline within the classroom. It also aims to develop skills and techniques for dealing with others.
Occupational Therapy
These sessions help children to control their body functions and limbs, such as walking straight and balancing, as well as developing skills for holding and catching things, like holding a pen or a brush, so they can gradually become more self-sufficient in the future.
Special Needs Assessment
These sessions aim to continuously develop academic skills, especially in school integration activities, by focusing on supporting and developing academic skills for various subjects in order to improve academic achievement. This includes the Arabic and English language, mathematics, science, and Islamic education
Advocacy
Advocacy includes bringing awareness to the community about autism, how it affects individuals and their families, and what support can be offered.
Parents Awareness Sessions
Parents awareness sessions aim to give parents a better understanding of autism, best practices to make their child feel safe, comfortable, and access to everything they need to live a happy life.
