One of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women is breast cancer. In particular, this applies to African women. The African Women’s Cancer Awareness Association (AWCAA) is a non-profit organization. It serves its purpose of educating immigrant African women about breast cancer. Through breast cancer screenings, they also strive to catch it early.

About AWCAA

In 2004, a group of African immigrant women who work in health care formed AWCAA. Their goal is to help African immigrants with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. This group helps to get more information, help with prevention, and access to health care.

Many African women can receive breast cancer screenings because of AWCAA. The group has worked with medical professionals and hospitals. Their mission is to deliver screenings and breast cancer education. Additionally, they offer indigent women free ultrasounds, clinical breast exams, and mammograms.

Importance of Early Detection

It is impossible to stress the significance of early identification. Because breast cancer is very curable when found early. But a lot of women in African nations are unaware of breast cancer warning signs and symptoms. And most of them do not have access to screening facilities. AWCAA seeks to reduce this problem by offering access to screening services.

Assistance from UMR

UMR joined forces with the AWCAA and has been taking part in medical programs in Sudan. Our aim is to raise awareness and give medical care.

At the beginning of last month, UMR sent a group of doctors to hospitals and clinics in Sudan. They taught women about breast cancer prevention, treatments, and more. Also, anyone who wanted a screening could get one from the doctors at this clinic.
