"Whatever you lend out in usury to gain value through other people's wealth will not increase with God, but whatever you give in charity, in your desire for God's pleasure, will earn a manifold increase." (Qur'an 30:39)
At United Mission for Relief and Development (UMR), we are committed to the ethical, transparent, and Shariah-compliant collection and distribution of Zakat. Our goal is to ensure that 100% of Zakat funds reach eligible recipientswhile maximizing impact through strategic humanitarian programs in Health, Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), and Food Security & Livelihoods (FSL).
Who Receives Zakat?
UMR follows the eight categories outlined in the Qur’an (9:60):
✅ The Poor & Needy (Al-Fuqara’ & Al-Masakin) – Support for vulnerable families, poverty alleviation, healthcare, and food security.
✅ Administrators of Zakat (Al-Amilina Alayha) – Up to 5% of Zakat is allocated for operational costs.
✅ Reconciliation of Hearts (Al-Mu’allafah Qulubuhum) – Community engagement and support for new Muslims.
✅ For Those in Bondage (Fir-Riqab) – Assistance for refugees and victims of human trafficking.
✅ Those in Debt (Al-Gharimin) – Financial aid for crisis-related debts, medical bills, and education.
✅ In the Cause of Allah (Fi-Sabilillah) – Relief and development projects aligned with Islamic values.
✅ The Wayfarer (Ibn as-Sabil) – Aid for displaced persons and stranded travelers.
