Fundraising Coordinator

Job Title: Human Resources Coordinator

Work Location: Alexandria, VA

Work Hours: Part-time, up to 24 hours per week

Summary of job responsibilities:

The Fundraising Coordinator has numerous responsibilities related to organizational fundraising. They are the point person for planning and executing events, keeping track of money, and coordinating volunteers. The coordinator manages special events and promotes UMR in their regions. They generate email lists to contact vendors and volunteers for charitable events, and they make sure UMR has a strong presence at large conventions.

UMR’s Fundraising Coordinators must have strong leadership skills to manage volunteers and to successfully run events. Organization skills are also a big must, as the Fundraising Coordinator often handles many unique tasks at once. Additionally, they must be proficient in Microsoft Word,  and Excel. A bachelor’s degree or more in a field related to the organization’s mission typically is preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Recruit volunteers for special events.
  • Coordinate identification and relationship building with key donors and organizations.
  • Organize campaign strategy and execution, setting communication and funding goals.
  • Develop marketing materials and plan events to generate funding.
  • Promote UMR in their area.

Work Location: Dallas, TX (Richardson and Plano area)

Summary of job responsibilities:

Our Call Center Representatives make a difference every day! As a call center representative, your primary task will be to provide good customer service to both existing UMR donors and potential new donors. As well as thanking them for their donations and asking them to renew their pledges to UMR, you will invite individuals to make donations to our humanitarian programs.

Marketing and Communications Intern

Intern Job Description: Marketing and Communications Intern

Start Date: Position open until filled, requires 3 – 6-month commitment.

Hours: 8 – 12 hours/week, preferably twice a week in the office. Hours are flexible

Compensation: This is an Unpaid/Volunteer Internship

Summary of job responsibilities:

United Muslim Relief seeks a creative and motivated intern to assist marketing and communications efforts. This internship is an excellent opportunity to experience various aspects of communication and marketing while working for well-known international humanitarian relief and development organization.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Update and enhance UMR’s social media presence on twitter, Facebook and Instagram
  • Assist in planning and writing UMR monthly e-Newsletter and quarterly printed Newsletters
  • Draft, proofread press releases, website content
  • Designing flyers, graphics, e-vites and other marketing material for major events hosted by UMR
  • Organize and attend bi-weekly marketing/communications meeting including preparing agenda and taking minutes
  • Collaborating with UMR staff on new creative ideas, and new techniques  for marketing and communications
  • Assist with coming up with exciting new Fundraising ideas involving Marketing and Communications

Qualifications:

  • Excellent in grammar and communication
  • Strong grasp of social media maintaince
  • Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field (e.g., English,Marketing/Communications, or Public Relations)
  • Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is a plus
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Adobe suite and Ilustrator and InDesign highly desired. Knowledge of HTML and graphic design a plus

HUMAN RESOURCES

Job Title: Human Resources Coordinator

Work Location: Alexandria, VA

Work Hours: Part-time, up to 24 hours per week

Summary of job responsibilities:

This role is responsible for performing HR-related duties on a professional level and works closely with the Finance and Administration Department in supporting the organization’s HR goals. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: payroll management and processing, timesheets collection, benefits administration, performance management, on-boarding, policy implementation, recruitment/retention, and employment law compliance. .

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the development, implementation, and regular review of personnel policies and procedures; Prepares and maintains employee handbook and policies and procedures manual.
  • Supports UMR’s employees by providing answers to benefits questions, and is responsible for the day-to-day administration of benefits claims, change reporting, and communicating benefit information to employees.
  • Assists the F&A Director in managing relationships with HR-related vendors.
  • Prepares payroll records for processing by payroll vendor, and owns the payroll change management process.
  • Help conducts recruitment effort for the organization by managing applicant tracking system, and developing job descriptions in partnership with relevant department heads.
  • Conducts new employee HR and benefits orientations.
  • Conducts exit interviews.
  • Supports F&A Director in providing coaching and performance management guidance to employees and to managers.
  • Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed.
  • Maintains human resource information system records and compiles reports from the database.
  • Maintains compliance with federal and state regulations concerning employment.
  • Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements:

  • Two years plus education in Human Resources or administration
  • Two years plus experience in all aspects of HR functional areas – payroll, recruitment, HRIS, compliance, policies, benefits, employee relations, performance management, etc.
  • PHR certification preferred
  • Experience with HRIS systems (preferably Oasis).
  • Experience with payroll systems (preferably Paychex/Oasis).
  • Excellent time management skills

COMMUNICATIONS

Job Title:  Advocacy and Congressional Outreach Intern
Work Location:  Alexandria, VA
Duration: 90 days with possible extension
Pay Status: Unpaid Internship
Work Hours:   Monday-Sunday, 20 hours flexible days and evenings availability required

We are looking for an intern to shadow us in the exciting work this department is embarking on. The intern will get first-hand exposure on how to advocate successfully, gain tremendous leadership skills, meet influential leaders on Capitol Hill and other government agencies, and practice writing in a variety of styles successfully.

The intern will shadow the Advocacy and Outreach Manager to gain understanding from UMR’s advocacy and outreach efforts.  The intern will learn the practical application as follows:

  • Observe the implementation of UMR’s advocacy and outreach work and practice representing UMR at local events, meetings and conferences; report outcomes and follow-up tasks as needed
  • Learn to create new, and nurture ongoing, beneficial partnerships with humanitarian-focused companies and organizations
  • Assist in the planning and coordination of UMR advocacy special events
  • Practice scheduling meetings for Advocacy and Outreach Manager with Capitol Hill offices, State Department, and other federal agencies
  • Gain experience with researching topics pertaining to UMR’s programs and advocacy platform

Requirements:

  • Current or recent enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate related degree program with an interest and aptitude to work in Advocacy and Outreach work
  • Complete orientation(s) and trainings with UMR staff at initiation of Advocacy & Outreach Internship

GRAPHIC DESIGNER JOB DESCRIPTION

Position: Graphic Designer
Status: Freelance (Per-Project)
Department: Communications
Location: Anywhere

United Muslim Relief is seeking qualified freelance graphic designers to work on creative projects and meet design needs of the organization on a per project basis. Candidates must possess a great eye for design, be detail-oriented, and understand the importance of branding and design. Ideal candidates are talented individuals who are not afraid to think outside the box while utilizing flexibility of the organization’s brand exceptionally.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Designs print and digital marketing collateral on a per project basis;
  • Provides professional grade quality by effectively adhering to basic design principles and trends;
  • Infuse the organization’s branding into each design, while utilizing creative license to expand that brand;
  • Keeps project lead informed on design progress and completes tasks within allotted time;
  • Communicates effectively with project lead to gather information on the respective program/event.

Education and Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in design, marketing, or related field or equivalent visual design
  • At least three 2-3 years experience working in design, particularly graphic design and web design.
  • Experience with design software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketch, and InDesign;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and must have exceptional communication skills and be able to bridge the gap between the business and creative sides of the organization
