Access to clean water is a basic human right, yet many communities worldwide suffer from limited availability. Constructing wells addresses this issue by providing a reliable source of clean water essential for drinking, cooking, and sanitation. With nearby access, residents no longer need to travel long distances to unsafe water sources, reducing the prevalence of waterborne diseases and improving overall health.
Wells also enhance agricultural productivity by supplying a consistent water source for irrigation. This is particularly vital in areas with low rainfall, helping farmers increase crop yields and improve food security. Additionally, clean water access fosters economic growth by supporting businesses and water-dependent industries, driving job creation and local economic development.
Environmentally, wells reduce pressure on rivers and lakes, often overused and polluted, thereby protecting surface water sources. These combined benefits transform communities, improving health, food security, economic stability, and environmental sustainability, ultimately raising the standard of living for all.
UMR WAJIR DROUGHT
Severe drought in East Kenya is putting thousands of lives at risk. Families and their livestock—often their only source of income—are struggling to survive without access to clean water.
In response, UMR has launched an emergency water trucking program to deliver life-saving water to those in desperate need. But the crisis is far from over, and we need your help to keep this effort going.
💧 Your donation can provide clean water to families facing extreme drought.
